Farrell's Keeps Getting Better and Better!





All of us have our story. All of us have had some sort of physical challenges in our lives. Well, I would like to share mine. It is not better or worse than yours, just different.


I have always been an active person. All through High School and my adult life I have enjoyed sports and being active in some way. When I was 29 I had my first back surgery. Within five years of that first surgery I had two more. Then I went nine years until my last back surgery, which was in 2012 where I had fusion done on my lower back. That was physical issue #1. In 2013, I underwent reconstruction ankle surgery. They reattached two tendons, removed all the arthritis and broke my heal bone to realign it to fix it from continuing to tear.

During both of these recoveries, I lost muscle and gained weight. As many people have experienced in their lives.

Heather May 2014 and June 2015In September 2014 I saw a post on Facebook that changed my life. My friend Tracy won a fitness challenge at her gym called Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping (FXB). I noticed they offered a “try-it” class, so I showed up and loved it. However, I was skeptical if my ankle and back could handle it, mostly was mostly fear that I was feeling, but I signed up for my first 10 weeks in October 2014. I went six times a week for 45 minutes each. Every other day of kickboxing and resistance bands, lots of push-ups, sit-ups (which I only was able to do 10 when I started!) The list of variety goes on and on. After my first 10 weeks, to my surprise, I was the runner up for my group.

Here’s the thing, it wasn’t about losing the weight. Yes, losing weight was necessary for me to gain strength, but it wasn’t the MAIN goal. Yes, I did lose weight,* but most importantly lost inches, body fat, and gained muscle and confidence. I could ramble off all my stats, but being able to do the things I can do now having had two major physical issues, is proof enough that this program works.

In June of 2015, I finished a 10-week FIT challenge at FXB, where all the FIT members participated in their own challenge. A total of 59 teams of 3 worked together and my team, Forty, FIT and Foxy, took second place. Second place out of 59 teams, still doesn’t seem real. It just keeps getting better and better.

In March 2016, I finished an individual 10-week FIT challenge that focused a lot on nutrition with measurements, weight, body fat, etc. I was thrilled that I came in second place out of 50+ women who participated.

My 2016 was a year of fitness consistency thanks to FXB! In October of 2016 I achieved my 500th workout at the gym since October of 2014. However, in 2016 I went to 276 classes out of 366 days (it was leap year) 52 days were Sundays, which the gym is closed on. I was out of state for 17 vacation days, and had 10 days in a row of illness (Shingles). If you count all that up, I missed a total of 11 days at the gym, which I chose to skip. Only 11 days in an entire year. I have NEVER done that in my 45 years.


There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about how I used all my aliments as an excuse on why I couldn't do something before. Not anymore!

I understand everyone has work-life balance. I understand everyone has physical ailments they fear may hinder their ability to participate. I understand there is a financial commitment too. Believe me, I get it, I really do, but what is more important than your health?

Bottom line…I can’t say enough about Farrell's and this program. The owners Tim and Sara are amazing human beings! The people working out there, I simply call them my family.

Here's to 2017, where I will have more than 276 days at the gym, and will continue to test my physical abilities!
