For Once It’s About Me

Molly Before Farrell's BettendorfMy name is Molly and I am 36 years old. I have a three-year-old son, Adam, and a wonderful husband, Nick. They are my whole world and I would do anything for them. I have always struggled with my body image, even when I was not overweight. I have always had great intentions when it came to weight loss, but never the follow through. I have tried many different things including the stupid things that I know wouldn’t work! I had some success with Weight Watchers, but again, I lacked the follow through. I believed that I would never get to where I wanted to be, so why bother trying?  

I ended up joining Farrell’s Bettendorf very quickly. I met Pete, the manager, at a neighborhood party and thought he was very nice. I was signed up by the end of the night! I figured, why not? In the workouts I’ve done in the past, I’ve always seemed to enjoy the kickboxing workouts the most. Orientation was six days later and then I was off to the races!

The first week of kickboxing and strength training was hard, but I never thought about giving up! This was something I was going to stick with. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a crier. I cry when I’m mad, sad, happy, excited, frustrated, during Hallmark commercials; I’m crying as I write this!, You get the idea! So it was no surprise to me when I cried early on in the process. But it was such a great release. I had so much pent up emotions and I was finally letting them out through these workouts. My coach, Kara, was very direct with me, but also very caring. Many of my problems came from more self-doubt than anything else. We had many conversations about keeping it a Level 10, because for me, it was the mental challenge as much as the physical one.

Molly at Farrell's BettendorfAfter a few weeks, I felt like I was kicking some serious butt! I still probably looked uncoordinated, but I didn’t care. I was putting in the effort and wanting to succeed. In week seven, I started back to school. I teach elementary music. I was standing at my piano and got a severe pain in my back that made me buckle at the knees. I had no idea what happened. I almost didn’t go to class, but I made it anyway. Other members were able to help me with modifiers so that I could keep moving without hurting myself more. This went on for about two more weeks. I never did totally figure out what happened, but I never missed a day. I was not going to give up. The Molly from eight weeks ago would have given up.  In week 10, I started to feel normal again, but I did feel a little bit like I was starting over. I had to rebuild some muscles that I hadn’t been able to use as much during my injury. I was nervous about my 10-week testing results because of it. But I had to sit back and really look at what had changed. So even if the numbers weren’t there, there had definitely been changes! I am down a pant size, I have more energy and I’m eating better. The life change is happening! When my results came back, the numbers were there! I am down 17.5 inches and 11 pounds.  I went from being able to do 12 pushups to 47 and 14 sit-ups to 29. * My mile time dropped by a full TWO minutes! I wonder what my results would have been without the injury! 

Farrells eXtreme Bodyshaping has completely changed my life and made me a happier person. I have a new family of friends that understand what I’m going through because they are all going through it too. I couldn’t have done it without my husband, who took over some roles at home so that I could take this time for me. I would recommend this program to anyone (and I have!). It’s not just a weight loss program, it’s is an all-around fitness life program.
